As it is not uncommon for killers to carve out body parts as a trophy and send them to the police as a demonstration of power, the Spiral Killer might be following a similar pattern when it comes to their killings. ![]() It is also interesting to note that the original working title of Spiral: From the Book of Saw was The Organ Donor, which might be a hint about what resides within the light blue box that Zeke receives at the police station. Due to the innate nature of the plot, which will most likely unfold like a detective mystery, one can expect Spiral to be darker, grittier, and more psychological, with the killer driven simply by their twisted urges as opposed to the trappings of revenge.Īs targeted revenge does not seem to be the killer’s prime motive, it is possible that the killer is a sadistic mastermind who simply wishes to indulge in a grotesque game for the sake of personal thrill. While Spiral might contain certain elements that harken back to the Saw franchise, such as the scene wherein Zeke is chained in a bathroom with a rusty hacksaw in his hand, the latest installment seems to be steering in a fresh new direction altogether. On the other hand, the Spiral Killer seems to be going after cops alone, indicating that their motives are quite different than that of Jigsaw or his acolytes, who were mostly spurred by intense psychological trauma and familial tragedy. Although almost all of Jigsaw’s traps were brutal and grotesque, they were always escapable in some way, as the point was to push the target to their limits until they chose life amid terrible odds. John Kramer or Jigsaw’s heinous traps were designed for individuals who had taken their lives for granted, with the elaborate cat-and-mouse games designed to teach them a violent lesson. Is it possible that Captain Garza underwent immense personal trauma triggered by certain members of the police force at some point? Is Zeke’s father a part of the equation, which explains why he is seen pursuing the killer alone? Or is the killer actually Zeke’s partner Schenk, who might be carrying out frenzied retribution due to a personal cause? While there are no clear answers, it is interesting to dissect the killer’s motives within the framework of the film’s setting. As for suspects, one cannot rule out Captain Angie Garza (Marisol Nichol), who seems to know Zeke quite well, which might tie directly to the killer’s focus on Zeke’s relationship with his father, hinting at a personal motive. ![]() This assumption is purportedly supported by the killer’s recorded messages in the trailer, which appear to be masked in a way that hints at the fact that the killer’s voice might be more high-pitched than it appears. ![]() While it is too early to speculate the identity of the killer, theories that the killer might be female have been doing the rounds on social media.
